Performing live tonight in a restaurant here in Venice. Every now and then I have the chance to play some jazz with a fellow double bass player.

It’s always a pleasure performing live for an audience – producing music is great but doing just studio work can be alienating, especially for those like myself who have played live many times and for so many years.
I miss the stage, and this occasional gigs are like a breathe of fresh air.

With gigs in restaurants you never know what it’s going to happen…
A small kid suddenly coming on stage and banging on your instruments (his mother tenderly smiling at him while he does so)…
A couple of american tourists enjoying so much the concert that they keep offering you cocktails (needless to say, we finished the set completely wasted)…
Two single girls smiling and winking to us the whole night (we’re family men, damn!)…
Every night is different, every night is fun and surprising – as I said, it doesn’t happen often, and that’s also the reason why I always find it exciting – it’s not just “another day at the office” (I’ve got my day job for that!).
